Project description

When it comes to making established agricultural businesses fit for the future, investments in modern and up-to-date farm buildings are usually on the agenda. This was also the case for farmer Heinz Hassels from Ahaus in North Rhine-Westphalia. In order to make the family-run dairy farm with its own rearing facilities attractive for the next generation, Hassels decided to build a new, modern cubicle barn. In addition to economic aspects, the issue of animal welfare played a particularly important role. In concrete terms, this means providing the animals with the best possible supply of fresh air and natural daylight. An existing building was demolished in order to construct the new building, which is up-to-date in terms of animal welfare and animal health. The new barn houses both cattle and pregnant cows as well as calving pens for the dams.

Solution

In order to meet the high requirements for animal welfare, the customer decided to build a fresh air barn, designed as a steel hall with prefabricated walls in a clinker brick look with a large-area Lubratec WLO roll-up ventilation system, size 2 x 24 m x 3.20 m and 1 x 24 x 2.30 m. The modern side ventilation system is not only suitable for large opening heights, but also offers maximum flexibility thanks to a wide range of opening options and customisation. The roll-up vents open upwards to optimise the supply of fresh air. This allows the air to flow into the building in the best possible way and be distributed deep into the room without draughts. A Smart Controller and a Lubratec SmartPad were installed as part of the intelligent Lubratec Smart barn climate control system. The three installed roll-up ventilation systems can be easily controlled from the pad. The customer also opted for a supplementary active ventilation system with axial fans.

Advantages

  • Efficient, flexible and reliable barn ventilation
  • Increased animal welfare thanks to draught-free fresh air and daylight
  • Improved animal health: reduction of heat stress, germs and harmful gases
  • Customised adaptation to the needs on site
  • Robust system solution, even for large openings
